Harry Kane's hat-trick helped Gareth Southgate's side roar past Montenegro and seal Euro 2020 qualification as England celebrated their 1,000th match in style, but how did the hosts fare at Wembley on Thursday night?

England (4-3-3)

Jordan Pickford
Given it was such a comfortable evening for England, it was a slight surprise that Pickford still had to make good saves from Simic and Beciraj. 7/10

Trent Alexander-Arnold
Not quite the impact of Chilwell from the left, but Alexander-Arnold still got in on the assist act with the cross for Kane’s hat-trick goal. 7/10

John Stones
Making his first England appearance since the Nations League in the summer, Stones resumed his partnership with Maguire and looked like he had never been away. 7/10

Harry Maguire
Almost scored with a header and made an important challenge on Vesovic who had gone round Chilwell and looked comfortable next to Stones. 7/10

Ben Chilwell
He won’t get the matchball from England’s 1,000th game, but Chilwell’s hat-trick of assists was almost as impressive as Kane’s goalscoring treble. 9/10

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Opened the scoring with his first England goal since June 2017, which went some way to justifying his place in the team ahead of James Maddison, who replaced him in the second half. 7/10

Harry Winks
This was not the type of game for Winks to catch the eye, as Chilwell and the forwards dominated. Kosovo might be a better place to judge him on Sunday night if he plays. 7/10

Mason Mount
The Chelsea midfielder twice went close to getting his first England goal, once straight after Oxlade-Chamberlain had scored and then when he had a goal disallowed for a narrow offside. 7/10

Jadon Sancho
In for Raheem Sterling, Sancho put his Borussia Dortmund problems to produce a performance full one energy and danger. It won’t just be Montenegro who can’t cope with his pace. 8/10

Harry Kane
England’s record scorer Wayne Rooney was in the Wembley stands to see Kane move on to 31 with a stunning 37-minute hat-trick. It seems just a matter of time until the record changes hands. 10/10

Marcus Rashford
The Manchester United forward saw a shot saved after being put through by Sancho, but took his goal well after Maguire’s header had been saved. 7/10

Substitutes

Tammy Abraham (on for Kane, 57) 7: The in-form Chelsea striker replaced Kane and opened his goalscoring account for England from Sancho’s low cross.

James Maddison (on for Oxlade-Chamberlain, 56) 6: Finally rewarded for his superb Leicester City form with his England debut.

Joe Gomez (on for Mount, 71) 7: A section of the England crowd made their feelings clear on the Sterling-Gomez clash by ridiculously booing Gomez on to the pitch. As with previous events this week, he took it in his stride.

Montenegro (4-3-2-1): Mijatovic 7; Vesovic 4, Sofranac 5, Simic 5, Radunovic 4 (Raspopovic, 46, 6); Hocko 5, Lagator 5, Vukcevic 5; Jovovic 5 (Jankovic, 65, 6), Haksabanovic 5 (Boljevic, 75, 5); Beciraj 5.
