With EPS Growth And More, Gokul Agro Resources (NSE:GOKULAGRO) Is Interesting

Simply Wall St

It's only natural that many investors, especially those who are new to the game, prefer to buy shares in 'sexy' stocks with a good story, even if those businesses lose money. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses.

In the age of tech-stock blue-sky investing, my choice may seem old fashioned; I still prefer profitable companies like Gokul Agro Resources (NSE:GOKULAGRO). Now, I'm not saying that the stock is necessarily undervalued today; but I can't shake an appreciation for the profitability of the business itself. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, unless its owners have an endless appetite for subsidizing the customer, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else breathe its last breath.

How Quickly Is Gokul Agro Resources Increasing Earnings Per Share?

If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price will eventually follow. It's no surprise, then, that I like to invest in companies with EPS growth. We can see that in the last three years Gokul Agro Resources grew its EPS by 8.2% per year. That's a good rate of growth, if it can be sustained.

Careful consideration of revenue growth and earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margins can help inform a view on the sustainability of the recent profit growth. While Gokul Agro Resources may have maintained EBIT margins over the last year, revenue has fallen. Suffice it to say that is not a great sign of growth.

Gokul Agro Resources isn't a huge company, given its market capitalization of ₹1.8b. That makes it extra important to check on its balance sheet strength.

Are Gokul Agro Resources Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Many consider high insider ownership to be a strong sign of alignment between the leaders of a company and the ordinary shareholders. So we're pleased to report that Gokul Agro Resources insiders own a meaningful share of the business. In fact, they own 61% of the company, so they will share in the same delights and challenges experienced by the ordinary shareholders. To me this is a good sign because it suggests they will be incentivised to build value for shareholders over the long term. In terms of absolute value, insiders have ₹1.1b invested in the business, using the current share price. That's nothing to sneeze at!

Is Gokul Agro Resources Worth Keeping An Eye On?

One important encouraging feature of Gokul Agro Resources is that it is growing profits. If that's not enough on its own, there is also the rather notable levels of insider ownership. The combination sparks joy for me, so I'd consider keeping the company on a watchlist. Now, you could try to make up your mind on Gokul Agro Resources by focusing on just these factors, or you could also consider how its price-to-earnings ratio compares to other companies in its industry.
