Establishment Labs Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:ESTA) Insiders Increased Their Holdings

Simply Wall St
·4 min read

We've lost count of how many times insiders have accumulated shares in a company that goes on to improve markedly. The flip side of that is that there are more than a few examples of insiders dumping stock prior to a period of weak performance. So before you buy or sell Establishment Labs Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:ESTA), you may well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling.

Do Insider Transactions Matter?

Most investors know that it is quite permissible for company leaders, such as directors of the board, to buy and sell stock in the company. However, rules govern insider transactions, and certain disclosures are required.

We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But equally, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether. As Peter Lynch said, 'insiders might sell their shares for any number of reasons, but they buy them for only one: they think the price will rise.

Establishment Labs Holdings Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Independent Director Lisa Colleran made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$60k worth of shares at a price of US$21.81 each. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at above the current price of US$20.02. It's very possible they regret the purchase, but it's more likely they are bullish about the company. We always take careful note of the price insiders pay when purchasing shares. As a general rule, we feel more positive about a stock if insiders have bought shares at above current prices, because that suggests they viewed the stock as good value, even at a higher price.

Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term.
