EU's Mali training mission should stay despite coup - Merkel

BERLIN, May 31 (Reuters) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Monday that the presence of a European Union training mission in Mali remained necessary and important after last week's coup against the West African country's government.

"We discussed Mali," Merkel told a news conference after talks with French President Emmanuel Macron. "We believe our presence there continues to be important and that nothing has changed on the matter of the training mission for Mali." (Reporting by Thomas Escritt and Paul Carrel)
