The Seattle-based company said it had profit of $2.18 per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, were $2.90 per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 13 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.63 per share.
The computer networking company posted revenue of $562.7 million in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Nine analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $560.7 million.
For the year, the company reported profit of $453.7 million, or $7.32 per share. Revenue was reported as $2.16 billion.
For the current quarter ending in January, F5 expects its per-share earnings to range from $2.51 to $2.54. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had forecast adjusted earnings per share of $2.44.
The company said it expects revenue in the range of $542 million to $552 million for the fiscal first quarter. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $546 million.
F5 shares have climbed 23 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has declined nearly 1 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $161.60, a rise of 36 percent in the last 12 months.
