TORONTO (AP) _ Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. (FRFHF) on Thursday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $477.6 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Toronto-based company said it had a loss of $17.89. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were $1.31 per share.

The financial services holding company posted revenue of $4.18 billion in the period.

For the year, the company reported profit of $376 million, or $11.65 per share. Revenue was reported as $17.76 billion.

Fairfax Financial Holdings shares have increased 8 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $475.53, a fall of 5.5 percent in the last 12 months.
