Malaysian fashion critic Zaihani Mohd Zain’s suggestion that people weighing more than 132 pounds shouldn’t be allowed to attend fashion shows has been met with predictable outrage.

The stylist and image consultant, who is well-known in Malaysia’s fashion circles, made the comments in a Facebook post, which has now been deleted.

As first reported by Malay Mail, Zain said people over 132 pounds should skip fashion shows because “your thighs are spilling over onto the chairs on your left and right.”

Zain’s body-shaming comments have stirred an uproar among fashion lovers and industry names.

Kuala Lumpur-based fashion designer Datuk Tom Abang Saufi shared her disgust, posting a telling montage of industry heavyweights sitting side-by-side with fellow guests of all shapes and sizes.

Zain apologized for her comments after the backlash.

The critic claimed that her comments were simply intended to air her frustration with a guest beside her who was sitting with his legs apart.

“He was actually manspreading throughout the evening, and that action had made me uncomfortable when his leg was brushing against mine during the show,” she said in a news report.

“Unfortunately, I didn’t know that it was called ‘manspreading’ and had wrongly described the situation, which led to people misconstruing my statement.”
