Treasury sinks Allergan, Pfizer deal

Pfizer's deal with Allergan was scuttled on the Treasury's new rules, but how did the rules make this transaction so unattractive? Yahoo Finance's Justine Underhill explains.

Winners and losers

Stocks swinging to the downside include LED light maker Cree on weak preliminary guidance, Wynn Resorts after stating that its Macau operations will miss the mark in the 1st quarter, and Harley Davidson. Shares of Harley tumbled after ITG Investment Research slashed its quarterly sales outlook for the company, claiming sales weakened considerably in March.

Shares on the move to the upside include Linn Energy after making a deal with bondholders, communications firm Polycom jumping on reports of a merger for Mitel Networks, and Constellation Brands. The company behind brands like Robert Mondavi and Corona beer popped after an earnings and revenue beat.

Looking ahead

  • In the morning we'll get weekly jobless claims. The street's looking for a consensus estimate of 272,000 initial claims, a slight dip from last week.
  • Tomorrow night in New York City, Janet Yellen will be joined in a roundtable discussion with former Fed chiefs Alan Greenspan, Ben Bernanke, and Paul Volcker. This is the first time the four living Fed chairs will appear together onstage.
  • Finally - an event unlike any other - the Masters golf tournament tees off early tomorrow morning. Despite Tiger Woods missing the event due to injury, all eyes will be on young defending champion Jordan Spieth, and rivals like world number one Jason Day, Rory McIlroy, and 'lefty' Phil Mickelson.
