Five-overtime Xfinity Series race leads to closest finish in NASCAR history
The end of the Xfinity Series race at Daytona on Saturday seemed interminable. But it produced the closest finish in major NASCAR series history.
Tyler Reddick beat Elliott Sadler by mere inches to take the win after a fifth attempt at an overtime two-lap finish. The finish was so close that NASCAR’s timing and scoring listed the margin of victory as 0.000. Yes, it went to the fourth decimal place.

The five overtimes came after a relatively clean first two stages to the race. The race was scheduled for 120 laps and ended up finishing at 143 laps because of constant crashing.
The worst wreck came when Kyle Larson — who was leading the race — spun around off the bumper of Aric Almirola. That took out numerous contenders for the win including Joey Logano and Chase Elliott.
Reddick is in his first season driving for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports after spending the 2016 season driving part-time for Chip Ganassi Racing in the Xfinity Series.
