For some, fizzy water is a lifestyle. It's like, would you rather drink a flute of 1996 Dom Perignon "Rose Gold" Methuselah rosé, valued at upwards of $40,000 per bottle, or a can of Polar lime seltzer, valued at less than 30 cents a pop? The seltzer, obviously. Bubbles are fancy, no matter the pedigree, and you can glug water at any point of the day without it being "weird" or "inappropriate for a working environment." But there is a way to class up those bubbles that'll also be better for the earth, which is always a huge plus. Get your own carbonator to set up in the kitchen. The Carbonator II from Aarke is one such machine.

It's a cinch to use.

There are no cords or batteries or charging packs with the Aarke Carbonator II. All you do is set it up on the counter top—where it'll look very impressive, by the way—fill the special, clear PET bottle with water to the fill line and screw it over the carbonating spout, and pull down on that silver lever for two seconds. If you're into more bubbles, repeat the lever pull. Then, unscrew the bottle and serve sparkling water from there. Almost as easy as pulling the tab on a can of seltzer. And though you shouldn't add any kind of flavoring to the PET bottle, we absolutely suggest dashing some bitters or flavored syrup into your drinking glass.

It's a kitchen flex.

This is the ideal kitchen appliance: It gives off a mysterious aura, prompting guests to ooh and aah over it once you explain its functionality. It looks entirely modern, but not tacky. It won't take up a ridiculous amount of counter space, and if you're drinking fizzy water every day, then it'll earn its keep—much more so than that espresso machine, ahem. And as for the CO2 canisters, Aarke recommends using SodaStream, which get discreetly tucked into the stem of the Carbonator.

It'll change your habits for the better.

Really, the Aarke II is about two things: buying a nice appliance for your home and doing a nice thing for the planet. You'll use less plastic and aluminum every day. And though the price makes it a treat-yourself purchase, in the end, all those cheap bottles and cans of fizzy water you've purchased over a lifetime add up, too. So, make it three things—it's a kitchen upgrade, a planet upgrade, and a smart investment.
