Florida State RB Jacques Patrick not out for season -- he'll play Saturday vs. Clemson

Florida State got a surprise this week. Running back Jacques Patrick is ready to go against Clemson.

Less than two weeks after FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said Patrick was “most likely” out for the season after suffering a knee injury vs. Boston College, Patrick’s knee injury isn’t as severe as initially thought. And Fisher said he’ll play Saturday against the No. 4 Tigers.

The running back said it was devastating to find out that he could miss the rest of the season after suffering an apparent serious injury in Florida State’s loss to Louisville.

“It was a real tough moment for me at the time,” Patrick said via Warchant.com in the video above. “I’ve never been through anything like that.”

He said Florida State’s medical staff initially thought it was a season-ending injury after looking at the results of an MRI. But he found out after surgery that he hadn’t suffered a blunt-trauma injury vs. the Cardinals.

“At first they thought it was torn cartilage … I think it was like an old injury that I’ve been playing on all year … when they were telling me about it I was so emotionally overwhelmed by it,” Patrick said.

He even said that he was cleared to put “full pressure” on his knee immediately after he got out of surgery.

Patrick is FSU’s second-leading rusher. He has 76 carries for 434 yards and his 5.7 yards per carry leads the team. Florida State, 3-5, must win its final three games of the season vs. Delaware State, Florida and (recently rescheduled) Louisiana-Monroe to make a bowl game if it loses to Clemson on Saturday.
