Feb 15 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co said on Monday it hasjoined the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA),which aims to promote use of third-party assessments of miningpractices to protect human rights.

Ford said its planned investment in electric vehicles wouldincrease the company's reliance on mined material, particularlyrelated to production of EV batteries. As a part of theinitiative, Ford would collaborate with brands across theindustry to promote responsible mining.

IRMA provides third-party verification and certification ofmining practices to protect human rights, communities andenvironment along the supply chain. Last year, German luxurycarmaker BMW had also joined the initiative.
