A former youth hockey coach, charged with sexual assault and child pornography offences last month, was found dead in Winnipeg on Wednesday.

Robert Dawson, 57, was arrested and charged in September following an investigation into the sexual assaults of two minor hockey players in the Assiniboine Park Hockey Association in Winnipeg between 1993 and 1995.

Police were called to a hotel room in the St-James-Assiniboia area on Wednesday, where they found Dawson’s body. Police do not suspect foul play.

Dawson was not believed to be coaching hockey anymore when he was arrested in September, but was a practising lawyer based out of his home.

The charges against Dawson included one count of possession of child pornography, two counts of making, printing, publishing or possessing for the purpose of publication of child pornography, and two counts each of sexual exploitation, sexual interference, forcible confinement and sexual assault.
