Did NFL fun police win? Brandin Cooks puts his bow and arrow away (Video)

Brandin Cooks drew back his bow but didn’t fire in Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. Did the NFL anti-fun brigade enter his mind? Or was this en elaborate fakeout aimed at messing with the league?

The New Orleans Saints wide receiver vowed this past week that he would continue his bow-and-arrow celebration despite a fine to the NFL, and he actually said he would not alter it.

“I’m going to figure it out, but I’m not going to change it,” Cooks told NOLA.com. “The league will have to deal with it. The reason for why I’m doing it and what’s behind why I’m doing it doesn’t have anything to do with violence.

“So I’m not going to change what I’m doing to satisfy what the league wants. That’s not what I’m here to do.”

Except … he kinda did. Cooks scored on a touchdown that went 87 yards on a Panthers busted coverage, and he got on one knee in an archer’s pose — it appeared to be on.

But, see, Cooks fooled us, instead doing almost a Deion Sanders-esque, arms-to-heaven finish. The arrow remained in the quiver, and no injuries are feared, thank goodness.

So how will the NFL react? There was no violent act here. It also will be interesting to see what Cooks says about the celebration since he did seem to change it and yet also appeared to be poking the NFL bear a bit. Stay tuned
