Galaxy S8 vs. LG G6 speed test: Which next-gen Android phone is faster?

Chris Smith

If you’re in the market for a brand new Android phone and you’re looking to purchase one of the first flagships of 2017, then the Galaxy S8 and the LG G6 will both be at the top of your list. Samsung and LG have already started selling their new creations, with LG having a slight lead on its long-time rival since its new flagship is in stores now. But how to these two new flagships compare when it comes to speed?

The phones offer a few interesting similarities when it comes to design, but the Galaxy S8 definitely appears to be the better choice when it comes to hardware. Samsung’s phone packs the latest mobile processors available, 10nm chips made by Samsung and Qualcomm. In fact, the Galaxy S8 is the only smartphone packing the brand new Snapdragon 835 chip. The LG G6, meanwhile, relies on last year’s best Qualcomm chip, the Snapdragon 821, a compromise LG made to be able to ship the G6 before the Galaxy S8 was even announced.

But is the Galaxy S8 faster than the LG G6 in real-life tests? A speed test from YouTube channel XeeTechCare puts both phones through similar paces, trying to determine which one is the fastest. We’re looking at boot times, opening apps, and loading apps from memory, which are the same kind of unscientific tests we’ve seen from others in the past. I will note that this isn’t the most accurate analysis I’ve seen, but it does offer some interesting insights.

It appears that the Galaxy S8 is slightly faster at opening certain apps, especially games. It also boots faster and may load web pages slightly faster as well. The differences, however, do not appear to be huge. But again, this may have something to do with the way the test is conducted.

Check out the full video below, while we wait for more speed test comparisons to come out from YouTubers with more experience at this sort of thing.
