That ‘Game of Thrones’ Kiss Between Yara and Ellaria Was Improvised

Here’s a little advice to everyone on Game of Thrones: NEVER kiss Ellaria Sand. It will NOT end well.

On the second episode of Season 7 of Game of Thrones, titled “Stormborn,” resident warrior women Ellaria Sand and Yara Greyjoy got flirty and physical with each other… right before Yara’s uncle Euron attacked and killed a lot of people. The two ended up kissing, albeit briefly, but it turns out, that kiss was entirely improvised and not in the script at all.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gemma Whelan, who plays Yara, said, “It wasn’t directed that we would kiss. It just seemed like something we should do. We led it, very much so. It was meant to be a suggestion [of flirting], and then it became more sexual than we expected because it seemed right.”

Any Yara and Ellaria shippers out there were left a bit unsatisfied, as a brutal and bloody battle left both women broken and at the mercy of Euron. I’m guessing a happy ending is not in the cards.
