WATCH: Stanford Lab Transforms Flowbee into Terrifying Musical Instrument
Ge Wang, who has the most high-level intersection of super-smarts and intense goofiness of anyone I’ve ever interviewed, unveils the latest from Stanford University’s CCRMA (“karma”) lab, devoted to crazy/fascinating music-tech experimentation.
It’s a hacked version of a Flowbee — the weird hair-cutting device from infomercials. Modified with various sonic gizmo tools, the Suck-O-Phonic 6000 evidently produces scream-like sounds corresponding with cut hair’s journey from head to vacuum. “Hair-raising,” as this video puts it.
“It doesn’t just suck,” Wang, who co-founded the music app company Smule, promises. “It will blow your mind.”
