George Clooney backed Julianna Margulies when she reportedly was told to lose weight while on 'ER'
George Clooney is reportedly all about supporting women who tell off their bosses for suggesting they lose some weight.
According to Once and Again actress and writer Julia Whelan, who once shared the small screen with Clooney during a brief stint on the television show ER, Clooney has strong feelings about the pressures actresses face to achieve a certain body type.
On Friday, Whelan penned a Twitter thread about her experience overhearing an on-set conversation between Clooney and another person, allegedly about co-star Julianna Margulies being asked to lose weight.
Whelan, who did not respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment, set the scene by describing her interaction with Clooney, which was nothing short of swoonworthy.
Okay, I have a story to tell about shooting this, so I'm gonna.

So now that George is here (I can call him George, you see) we all go to set for rehearsal. First scene up. It's 7 AM by this point. We start to do a run through.
Now:

So long that the script supervisor starts feeding me my line.
But, George holds up a hand.
Then, looking directly at me, Clooney eye-twinkle on full display, he says:

"She's got it. She knows exactly what she's doing.”

Then, she spills details about overhearing Clooney’s conversation.
We're about to shoot, they're doing finishing touches, and I overhear someone whisper to him: Did you hear what they told Juliana?
("They" always means studio/network in these situations)

GC: Did they ask her to lose weight?
Other person: Yup.
GC: And did she tell them to go fuck themselves?
Other person: Yup.
GC: Good for her.— Julia Whelan (@justjuliawhelan) February 23, 2018
THEN I fell in love.

(Incidentally, when I do my scene right after with Juliana – WHO WAS LOVELY – and I see that she's prob a buck fifteen soaking wet, I start to seriously rethink my career choice)

Wait, jk, a coda: Every time in my career that I've been asked to lose weight, I hear George in my head: Tell them to go fuck themselves.
And then, when I do: Good for her.— Julia Whelan (@justjuliawhelan) February 23, 2018
Whelan said Hollywood beauty standards in the late ’90s were brutal, and added, “There was NO variety of female body types on television.”
And of course, Margulies rocks for reportedly championing body positivity long before it was a buzzword.
