It looks as though Ghost rider is getting his origin story…
It’s no secret that the legendary Ghost Rider has been appearing on ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ but while the character has been shrouded in mystery, it looks as though we will find out where he came from. And exactly how he got his powers.
But will it be anything like the comic books?
The upcoming ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Season 4 Episode 6 is titled ‘The Good Samaritan’… and ABC has just released a short synopsis which confirms it will detail exactly where the Ghost Rider came from.
“The shocking origin story of Robbie’s transition into Ghost Rider is revealed as the lives of Coulson and the team hang in the balance.”
Of course, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ features a very specific version of Ghost Rider.
Instead of going with the classic Johnny Blaze (who was played by Nicolas Cage is two Marvel movies), they’ve instead opted to bring Robbie Reyes to the screen.
And the comic book origin of Robbie Reyes is a tragic story indeed.
A high school student who also works as a mechanic, Robbie strives to get away from the gang-riddles streets of East Lost Angeles. Entering a street race in order to win enough cash to start a new life, Robbie ends up gunned down by Mercenaries in mysterious circumstances. Revived as a demonic being with a flaming helmet-like head, Robbie is revealed to have been resurrected by a spirit which has bonded to his car… and so he becomes Ghost Rider.
But will this version of Ghost Rider’s origin make it to the screen?
It would certainly make an interesting addition to ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’… and with Reyes’s brother Gabe already appearing on the show, it seems there could well be a tie to the character’s comic book backstory.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
