PITTSBURGH (AP) _ GNC Holdings Inc. (GNC) on Friday reported a third-quarter loss of $8.6 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Pittsburgh-based company said it had a loss of 10 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 2 cents per share.

The nutritional supplement retailer posted revenue of $580.2 million in the period.

In the final minutes of trading on Friday, the company's shares hit $4.25. A year ago, they were trading at $5.94.
