While not a mind-blowing move, it is good to see that the GoGold Resources Inc. (TSE:GGD) share price has gained 29% in the last three months. But spare a thought for the long term holders, who have held the stock as it bled value over the last five years. Five years have seen the share price descend precipitously, down a full 73%. It's true that the recent bounce could signal the company is turning over a new leaf, but we are not so sure. The million dollar question is whether the company can justify a long term recovery.

Given that GoGold Resources didn't make a profit in the last twelve months, we'll focus on revenue growth to form a quick view of its business development. Shareholders of unprofitable companies usually expect strong revenue growth. That's because it's hard to be confident a company will be sustainable if revenue growth is negligible, and it never makes a profit.

A Different Perspective

While the broader market gained around 1.2% in the last year, GoGold Resources shareholders lost 4.7%. However, keep in mind that even the best stocks will sometimes underperform the market over a twelve month period. Unfortunately, longer term shareholders are suffering worse, given the loss of 23% doled out over the last five years. We would want clear information suggesting the company will grow, before taking the view that the share price will stabilize.
