The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (GS) Investigated by Block & Leviton LLP For Violations of Federal Securities Laws

BOSTON, MA / ACCESSWIRE / December 18, 2018 / Block & Leviton LLP (www.blockesq.com), a securities litigation firm representing investors nationwide, is investigating whether the Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (''Goldman Sachs'' or the ''Company'') (GS) and certain of its officers and directors violated federal securities laws.

Since at least 2016, Goldman Sachs has been the subject of investigations by the United States Department of Justice regarding the Company's involvement in a multibillion-dollar fraud and money-laundering scheme involving 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), a Malaysian government fund.

On November 2, 2018, federal indictments were unsealed against two of the company's former managing directors, Tim Leissner and Roger Ng, which explicitly described them as ''agents acting within the scope of their employment'' on behalf of Goldman Sachs ''with the intent'' of benefiting Goldman Sachs.

Following this news, Goldman Sachs tried to downplay and minimize the involvement of then-CEO and Chairman Lloyd Blankfein. Bloomberg reported on November 8, 2018, in an article titled ''Goldman's Blankfein Said to Have Attended 2009 1MDB Meeting'' that ''Blankfein was the unidentified high-ranking Goldman Sachs executive referenced in U.S. court documents who attended a 2009 meeting with the former Malaysian prime minister…'' The article further states that ''[t]he meeting was arranged with the help of men who are now tied to the subsequent plundering of the 1MDB fund''.

This article further states that Mr. Blankfein ''said at a conference in New York last week that he's not aware of senior managers missing red flags in the 1MDB dealings.'' Instead, Mr. Blankfein said that the matter was an issue of a few employees dodging bank controls and lying about it.''

Between November 2, 2018 and November 12, 2018, Goldman Sach's stock price plunged almost 11%.
