Goldman Sachs names Mark Tucker to board

NEW YORK (AP) -- The Goldman Sachs Group Inc. said Monday that Mark Edward Tucker has been appointed to its board.

Tucker is the group chief executive and president of AIA Group Ltd., a pan-Asian life insurance group. He is a former group chief executive of Prudential PLC.

The investment bank said that Tucker will serve as an independent director of the firm. His appointment expands its board to 12 members. Tucker will be a member of each of its four committees: audit; risk; compensation; and corporate governance and nominating.

Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein said that Tucker's global experience and understanding of effective risk management would benefit the company.

Shares of the company increased 83 cents to close at $124.08 but slipped 46 cents in after-hours trading.
