Google warms to solar in Africa

The search and technology giant is investing $12 mil in a solar power project in South Africa, its first renewable-energy investment in Africa. Google (GOOG) said the 96-megawatt Jasper Power solar photovoltaic plant, southwest of Johannesburg, will power 30,000 homes. The company has invested more than $1 bil in wind and solar projects in N. America and Europe to offset the energy its massive server farms use. Shares rose 0.3% to 870.76.
