OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 24, 2013) - At the request of the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will visit the cities of Boston and New York, in the United States of America, on May 28 and 29, 2013.
"The Canada-United States bilateral relationship is a model for the world, as it is founded on values of democracy, respect and rule of law," said the Governor General. "I believe that this upcoming visit will reaffirm that no two other nations have ties as close as ours. I look forward to meeting and conversing with representatives from the business, financial and innovation sectors during my visit."
His Excellency's visit will begin on May 28, in Boston, Massachusetts, where he will receive an honorary membership in Harvard's Phi Beta Kappa and deliver a keynote address to the New England-Canada Business Council and local business leaders. He will then visit the Boston Marathon memorial site to pay tribute to the victims of the bombings. Later that afternoon, he will attend a Fulbright Scholar Program discussion at Harvard University, at which time he will address guests and receive the inaugural Fulbright Canada Award for Outstanding Public Service.
On May 29, His Excellency will be in New York City to visit the NASDAQ MarketSite and speak on the diplomacy of knowledge, after which he will deliver a keynote address and participate in a panel discussion on urban innovation organized in partnership with the Center for Urban Planning Science and Progress, at New York University.

Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Membership Presentation
His Excellency will receive an honorary membership in the local Phi Beta Kappa chapter at Harvard University. By welcoming to its ranks the highest achievers in each graduating class, Phi Beta Kappa has recognized and promoted academic excellence at Harvard since 1779. Each year, an invitation is extended to a small number of alumni attending their class reunion as candidates for this honour, which recognizes lifelong service to the liberal arts and sciences. His Excellency will deliver a keynote address to the New England-Canada Business Council and local business leaders. Commemoration of the Boston Marathon Bombings
