OMAHA, Neb. (AP) _ Green Plains Renewable Energy Inc. (GPRE) on Monday reported a loss of $3.6 million in its first quarter.
On a per-share basis, the Omaha, Nebraska-based company said it had a loss of 9 cents.
The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 4 cents per share.
The ethanol production, marketing and commodities company posted revenue of $887.7 million in the period.
Green Plains shares have dropped 19 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $22.65, a climb of 25 percent in the last 12 months.
