DENVER, Oct. 9, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP continues the strategic expansion of its Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice with the addition of Shareholder Kevin Scott and Associate Sarah Schenker in Chicago, and Associates Karin Ross, Andrea Maciejewski, and Tyler Thompson in Denver. The group joins from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP).

These new arrivals follow the addition last month of three others from BCLP: Shareholders Jena M. Valdetero and David A. Zetoony, and Associate Jessica D. Pedersen. In a matter of weeks, Greenberg Traurig has added a total of eight new attorneys from BCLP to its Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice.

"We are excited to welcome these talented attorneys," said Gretchen A. Ramos, who co-chairs Greenberg Traurig's Global Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice and was named in 2019 among the Top Cyber attorneys in California by the Daily Journal. "With employees working remotely during the global pandemic, the increase in data breach and ransomware events this year, and the recent Schrems II decision, data protection is top of mind for our clients. This group of data protection attorneys is well positioned to help companies navigate complex data privacy and security challenges. Their experience and passion for elevating the client experience will only enhance our strong global team."

Scott counsels merchants, medical providers, financial institutions, educational institutions, and other entities on the identification, evaluation, and management of first- and third-party data privacy and security risks. He advises on data security, privacy breach response, and payment card industry standards and investigations, and has handled hundreds of breaches, often reducing public and regulatory scrutiny and protecting clients' reputations. His practice also includes advising clients on compliance with state, federal, and international laws and regulations.

In addition to his data security experience, Scott served as a judicial law clerk for the Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. He participated in the investigation and prosecution of financial fraud in the handling of government contracts for the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction in coordination with the Department of Justice. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps for 27 years, Scott retired as a colonel. He holds a J.D. from Georgetown University, an M.S.S. from the United States Army War College, and a B.S. in Oceanography from the United States Naval Academy.

"Greenberg Traurig has an unequalled geographic reach and well-earned reputation in the field of data privacy and cybersecurity law," Scott said. "I look forward to building on that foundation of success and collaborating with my colleagues across the firm."

Valdetero and Zetoony, who serve as co-chairs of Greenberg Traurig's U.S. Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice, advise clients on complex data privacy and security issues. Valdetero defends companies against privacy and data breach litigation, with an emphasis on class action lawsuits, and has led more than 1,000 data breach investigations. Zetoony advises companies on establishing and maintaining ongoing privacy and security programs and has defended corporate privacy and security practices in investigations initiated by regulatory agencies worldwide.
