RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Greif Inc., which makes industrial packaging, is spending $45 million to upgrade its operation in Virginia's Amherst County.
Gov. Bob McDonnell announced Greif's plans Tuesday. The project includes technology improvements that are expected to significantly reduce energy consumed to produce paper products.
The plant has operated in Amherst since 1975 and employs about 300 people. McDonnell says the upgrade protects those jobs by securing the plant's competitiveness in the containerboard market.
