KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ H&R Block Inc. (HRB) on Thursday reported a loss of $129.7 million in its fiscal third quarter.
The Kansas City, Missouri-based company said it had a loss of 67 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs and to account for discontinued operations, came to 59 cents per share.
The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 54 cents per share.
The tax preparer posted revenue of $519.2 million in the period.
H&R Block shares have declined 11% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has fallen slightly more than 6%. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $20.84, a drop of 13% in the last 12 months.
