The defending champion of the Georgia Legal Food Frenzy gained the top spot of the Atlanta branch of the competition Tuesday.

Joe S. Habachy held a $360 lead over the Georgia Tech legal department at of 3:30 p.m., $13,045 to $12,685. Serta Simmons Bedding was a big mover in the past 24 hours, jumping from 20th place to sixth with an $3,825 increase.

Overall, the event had raised $140,759 for the Atlanta Community Food Bank—or 46% of the $300,00 goal organizers hope to reach by the end of the day Friday. The Atlanta food bank and its counterparts around the state can turn each $1 donated into four meals for the hundreds of thousands of people who don't know how they'll get their next meal.

The Atlanta food bank reports that 819,000 people in the 29 counties around the city meet the standard for "food insecure." One in five children in the state live in that category.
