Not because it was an especially big discount — the total savings were just $30 — but because we had never seen an Apple tablet at this price point before. And earlier this year, Amazon started testing out an even lower price of $279. When this deal first went online back in August, the e-commerce retailer’s supply of iPads kept going out of stock as thosuands of shoppers tried to take advantage fo this deal.

Well, after a month of this deal going in and out of stock, it appears that Amazon is making this price reduction more or less permanent, at least while supplies last. While we can’t promise the price won’t ever go back about $300, the new $279 iPad appears to be here to stay
Specifically, you can score the 9th generation 10.2-inch iPad, originally released in late 2021, for just $279.99 at Amazon. As of this writing, retailers like Walmart are still selling the popular Apple tablet for $300.
Not too long ago, the idea of a $300 iPad seemed absurd. And in a time of record inflation, the idea of an iPad that costs less than $300 might be hard to believe.
Well, believe it!
In the past, we’ve seen prices on this tablet between $330-$420, but this new discount makes this one of the best Apple deals of the year. And with a second Prime Day rumored to take place later this year, we’re holding out hope that we might see even better iPad deals in the near future.

Why We’re So Excited About This iPad Deal
As we said earlier, we’ve never seen this discount before. Already, the classic Silver 2021 iPad 9 is low in stock, and as of this writing, only the darker Space Gray iPad is at the new reduced price. We thought this deal was incredible when it was priced at $299, and we would not be surprised if prices go back up soon.
Apple released the iPad 9 last year, and at the time, we praised the A13 Bionic Chip, which made this iPad faster than previous generations of Apple tablets. With a large 10.2-inch screen, it’s big enough for streaming and some types of work. With the best iPad accessories, you can even use it as a laptop alternative in some contexts, such as taking notes during class or streaming movies by the pool.
