This Syringe Hack Completely Crushes And Absorbs Pills In Seconds, And Even Health Care Professionals Are Amazed

Las Vegas-based nursing student Nicholas Curry recently caught the attention of millions of people after he shared this pill-crushing hack on TikTok:

After Nicholas's video went viral with over 9 million views, other healthcare professionals started trying the hack and sharing their mind-blowing reactions. This one by @thejohnathandodson has over 45 million views:

BuzzFeed spoke to Nicholas, who said his mom — who is a nurse — is actually the one who showed him the hack (hence why she was so sweetly helping him in the background of the video). "She came home from work very excited to show me this new trick she figured out during her shift. As soon as she showed it to me, I had to make a video and send it to my fellow clinical partners," he said.

Before we explain the pill-dissolving hack in detail, it is important to do your research to see if the medication you are taking is safe to dissolve! "Not all medications are allowed to be broken down prior to administration. Furthermore, if someone plans to do this in a hospital, they should first check with a supervisor if a technique like this is appropriate," Nicholas added.

For example, medicines like Ibuprofen should not be crushed or dissolved.

OK, now, if you have a medicine that can be dissolved or crushed, let's talk about how you can do this hack...

Nicholas broke it down for us, step by step. "First, it requires an empty, clean syringe. With the empty syringe, you remove the plunger (the part you push) and place the medication in the syringe. Next, you put the plunger back on, remove all air from the syringe, and draw up as much fluid as you need to mix the medication in. This amount of fluid will depend on which medication you are administering," he explained.

"Next, you occlude the tip of the syringe either with your thumb or a syringe cap, then pull back on the plunger a few times. This will create immense pressure in the syringe, which dissolves the medication quickly and efficiently without using a pill crusher," he said.

Nicholas has only tried this technique in his kitchen — not in clinical practice. "I want to make it extremely clear that this technique has more practical applications in veterinary practice and home healthcare. The hospital setting may not allow a technique like this."

So, basically, this is a very cool hack if you get the OK to do it by your doctor and the medication you are taking is safe to dissolve! As always, use precaution and talk to your doctor before trying any medical-adjacent TikTok hacks!!!
