Hawaii walk-on surprised with scholarship in the ring at a WWE event (Video)
No program has been more creative at giving out scholarships to walk-ons than Hawaii.
With WWE Live rolling through Honolulu on Wednesday night, that trend continued. Rainbow Warriors coach Nick Rolovich got backup quarterback Hunter Hughes into the ring with tag team The New Day to reveal that Hughes now is on scholarship.
Oh, and the quarterback had to earn it with some dance moves.

Hughes, a senior, has been around the program for the last three years. Before arriving on campus, Hughes spent three years on a mission “assisting the poor and teaching English in Taiwan, Nepal, Kenya and Sudan.” He initially joined the roster after a tryout in spring 2014 when he was a 22-year-old freshman, but was cut ahead of the season.
He returned to walk-on tryouts the following spring and was eventually invited back onto the roster. Hughes has mainly served on UH’s scout team and has yet to appear in a game but he’s clearly contributed enough to the program to earn a full scholarship.
