Head of natural gas group Marcellus Shale Coalition is stepping down this fall
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- The head of Pennsylvania's leading natural gas industry group said Friday that she'll be stepping down this fall.
Kathryn Klaber, CEO of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, said she's proud of what the group has accomplished during the past four years. The coalition represents drillers, pipeline companies and other industry-related businesses. Its members include Chevron Corp., Peoples Natural Gas, Range Resources, and Talisman Energy.
The group plans a nationwide search for its next leader.
Klaber said she's proud of the group's record on environmental issues. For example, the coalition supported a voluntary ban on taking drilling wastewater to municipal treatment plants in 2011 after scientists said the waste was threatening waterways.
She also said that 97 percent of the natural gas produced in Pennsylvania comes from coalition members.
Coalition chair Dave Spigelmyer said the group is grateful for Klaber's tireless efforts. When the coalition was founded in 2008 Pennsylvania produced negligible amounts of natural gas, but production from the Marcellus Shale formation has boomed since then.
Klaber will represent the group at upcoming meetings in Australia and London, and she is scheduled to host the coalition's third annual Shale Insight conference in Philadelphia in late September.
Klaber hasn't spoken publicly about her future plans.
