BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ HealthSouth Corp. (HLS) on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter profit of $65.3 million.
The Birmingham, Alabama-based company said it had net income of 68 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 72 cents per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 63 cents per share.
The rehabilitation hospital operator posted revenue of $949.9 million in the period, which did not meet Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $955.6 million.
For the year, the company reported profit of $247.6 million, or $2.59 per share. Revenue was reported as $3.71 billion.
HealthSouth expects full-year earnings in the range of $2.61 to $2.73 per share, with revenue in the range of $3.85 billion to $3.95 billion.
HealthSouth shares have risen 4 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $42.93, an increase of 37 percent in the last 12 months.
