Heart Attack Grill Spokesman Dies of Heart Attack
You’ve probably heard of the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas, which celebrates how unhealthy its food is with names like Quadruple Bypass Burger, a treat that weighs three pounds and has almost 10,000 calories. (That’s five days’ worth of the average FDA-recommended intake.) But maybe you haven’t heard how literal that name really is.
The Last Vegas Sun reports 52-year-old John Alleman is the latest to die. Alleman’s an interesting case because he was the (unofficial, unpaid) spokesman of the restaurant – he appeared on restaurant merchandise and would stand outside the restaurant promoting their food, which he ate regularly. He wasn’t massively obese, either, weighing in at about 180 pounds. (Other items on the menu: “Flatliner Fries, Full Sugar Coke, Butterfat Shake and no-filter cigarettes.”)
Last year, a woman in her 40s collapsed at the restaurant while having a Double Bypass Burger. A previous 575-pound spokesman died in 2011, although of pneumonia.
The restaurant owner Jon Basso said, “Heart attacks could happen to anyone,” and he won’t change the menu. “People have got to live their lives.”
