Adly Mansour has been named the new leader of Egypt.
The 68-year-old judge was called to the position of acting President of Egypt by the military, following the takeover of the government and removal of previous President Mohammed Morsi.
Mansour was chosen as he is the Chairman of the Supreme Constitutional Court of Egypt. He had held that position for just a few days. He took over earlier this month from Maher El Beheiry, who had been a judge on the Constitutional Court since 1991, and who last year the Egypt Independent wrote was the was the longest-serving judge in the court.
Correction: Earlier this post said that Maher El Beheiry was the new leader of Egypt, but due to the recent change of positions in the Supreme Constitutional Court this appears to have been incorrect.
