Here's Why I Think L'Air Liquide S.A (EPA:AI) Might Deserve Your Attention Today

In this article:

It's only natural that many investors, especially those who are new to the game, prefer to buy shares in 'sexy' stocks with a good story, even if those businesses lose money. And in their study titled Who Falls Prey to the Wolf of Wall Street?' Leuz et. al. found that it is 'quite common' for investors to lose money by buying into 'pump and dump' schemes.

If, on the other hand, you like companies that have revenue, and even earn profits, then you may well be interested in L'Air Liquide S.A (EPA:AI). While profit is not necessarily a social good, it's easy to admire a business that can consistently produce it. Loss-making companies are always racing against time to reach financial sustainability, but time is often a friend of the profitable company, especially if it is growing.

How Fast Is L'Air Liquide S.A Growing?

If a company can keep growing earnings per share (EPS) long enough, its share price will eventually follow. Therefore, there are plenty of investors who like to buy shares in companies that are growing EPS. Over the last three years, L'Air Liquide S.A has grown EPS by 4.3% per year. While that sort of growth rate isn't amazing, it does show the business is growing.

One way to double-check a company's growth is to look at how its revenue, and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) margins are changing. While we note L'Air Liquide S.A's EBIT margins were flat over the last year, revenue grew by a solid 5.3% to €22b. That's progress.

Are L'Air Liquide S.A Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

We would not expect to see insiders owning a large percentage of a €65b company like L'Air Liquide S.A. But we do take comfort from the fact that they are investors in the company. With a whopping €67m worth of shares as a group, insiders have plenty riding on the company's success. That's certainly enough to make me think that management will be very focussed on long term growth.

Does L'Air Liquide S.A Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?

One positive for L'Air Liquide S.A is that it is growing EPS. That's nice to see. If that's not enough on its own, there is also the rather notable levels of insider ownership. The combination sparks joy for me, so I'd consider keeping the company on a watchlist. Of course, just because L'Air Liquide S.A is growing does not mean it is undervalued.
