Here's Why We Think MIND C.T.I (NASDAQ:MNDO) Is Well Worth Watching

For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. But the reality is that when a company loses money each year, for long enough, its investors will usually take their share of those losses.

If, on the other hand, you like companies that have revenue, and even earn profits, then you may well be interested in MIND C.T.I (NASDAQ:MNDO). Even if the shares are fully valued today, most capitalists would recognize its profits as the demonstration of steady value generation. While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, unless its owners have an endless appetite for subsidizing the customer, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else breathe its last breath.

How Fast Is MIND C.T.I Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

Even modest earnings per share growth (EPS) can create meaningful value, when it is sustained reliably from year to year. So EPS growth can certainly encourage an investor to take note of a stock. MIND C.T.I has grown its trailing twelve month EPS from US$0.27 to US$0.29, in the last year. That amounts to a small improvement of 8.7%.

I like to see top-line growth as an indication that growth is sustainable, and I look for a high earnings before interest and taxation (EBIT) margin to point to a competitive moat (though some companies with low margins also have moats). MIND C.T.I shareholders can take confidence from the fact that EBIT margins are up from 22% to 25%, and revenue is growing. That's great to see, on both counts.

MIND C.T.I isn't a huge company, given its market capitalization of US$62m. That makes it extra important to check on its balance sheet strength.

Are MIND C.T.I Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

As a general rule, I think it worth considering how much the CEO is paid, since unreasonably high rates could be considered against the interests of shareholders. I discovered that the median total compensation for the CEOs of companies like MIND C.T.I with market caps under US$200m is about US$577k.

The MIND C.T.I CEO received US$514k in compensation for the year ending . That comes in below the average for similar sized companies, and seems pretty reasonable to me. While the level of CEO compensation isn't a huge factor in my view of the company, modest remuneration is a positive, because it suggests that the board keeps shareholder interests in mind. It can also be a sign of good governance, more generally.

Does MIND C.T.I Deserve A Spot On Your Watchlist?

One important encouraging feature of MIND C.T.I is that it is growing profits. On top of that, my faith in the board of directors is strengthened by the fact of the reasonable CEO pay. So I do think the stock deserves further research, if not instant addition to your watchlist. We don't want to rain on the parade too much, but we did also find 2 warning signs for MIND C.T.I that you need to be mindful of.

Although MIND C.T.I certainly looks good to me, I would like it more if insiders were buying up shares. If you like to see insider buying, too, then this free list of growing companies that insiders are buying, could be exactly what you're looking for.
