Hester Peirce nominated for second term as SEC commissioner: report
Hester Peirce, a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission commissioner, has been nominated for another term, according to a Bloomberg report.
The outlet said that Peirce had been nominated by a second term by President Donald Trump, citing the White House. Her current term expires on June 5.
Confirmation of a new term for Peirce must come from the U.S. Senate, which confirms nominations for key federal officials. Peirce first took office in January 2018.
Peirce has won plaudits from cryptocurrency advocates for her public dissents when the SEC shot down past efforts to create and list exchange-traded funds tied to bitcoin.
Earlier this year, Peirce proposed a safe harbor period that would give cryptocurrency startups more time to comply with the SEC’s securities laws. This would grant the startups a three-year grace period from their first token sale before the SEC determined whether they followed the agency’s regulations.
