Holby City viewers have seen Jac Naylor struggling with her mental health in silence in recent weeks, and now future spoilers for the soap have revealed just where exactly the story is heading.

Earlier this month, Jac's (Rosie Marcel) behaviour worried her old friend Elliot Hope (Paul Bradley) as she struggled with the bombshell that her ex-husband Jonny would be moving to Edinburgh with his new wife Stacey, as well as what that would mean for Jac and her daughter Emma.

Next week's episode will see Jac's behaviour continue to cause concern as she comes to blows with Kian (Ramin Karimloo) and later decides against confiding in her trusted friend Adrian 'Fletch' Fletcher (Alex Walkinshaw) about her struggles.

What's more, Jac is later left with a big decision to make when Elliot's health takes a turn for the worse and now advanced listings have revealed that things will reach a head as Jac ultimately ends up receiving treatment in a Psychiatric Unit.

The synopsis reads: "Holed up in a Psychiatric Unit, Jac (Rosie Marcel) finds herself in a state of denial. Jac hates the fact that she's there, but when she's visited by the three wise men – Fletch (Alex Walkinshaw), Sacha (Bob Barrett) and Elliot (Paul Bradley) – she realises that for Emma's sake things will have to change."

Speaking about the episode earlier this month, Paul Bradley explained that it will see the people closest to Jac rally around her in her time of need.

"[Elliot and Jac] are both very good at concealing what is upsetting them, so I think they recognise that and try to help each other," he told Inside Soap.

"There is an episode towards the end of the year that is quite Christmassy called 'Three Wise Men' – referring to Elliot, Sacha and Fletch, the closest people to Jac."

Series producer Jane Wallbank has also previously teased the story in an interview with Digital Spy, saying that there will be a "heart-wrenching performance" as the storyline continues.

"We revisit the issue of mental health for one character in a very big way running to the end of the year, with a heart wrenching performance from the artist," she told us.

"Jac wants to prioritise Emma and find a better life balance, but events basically conspire against this, with explosive results."

Elsewhere, the episode will also see Chloe (Amy Lennox) shaken to the core when she finds out some life-changing news as Phoebe (Daisy Wood-Davis) turns up looking for answers as to why her brother Evan died.

Meanwhile, Xav (Marcus Griffiths) and Cameron (Nic Jackman) battle to save the life of a young stab victim, but they soon discover that the girl isn't as innocent as she seems when her mother turns up.

Holby City airs these scenes on Tuesday, December 10 at 8pm on BBC One.
