Former Home and Away star Johnny Ruffo has teased his imminent return to acting following brain surgery.

The Australian actor's life was turned upside-down back in 2017 when he was forced to have a 7cm brain tumour removed, before undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy following a cancer diagnosis.

But there's now happier news, as Johnny is aiming to return to the screen after being given the all-clear, which he discussed in a recent appearance on The Morning Show.

"I'm getting back into work... slowly keep kicking on," he announced. "Now that I have the all-clear in the health part of things, I'm going to get back into television, back into acting, might even dip my toe into theatre – if the role is right."

Johnny has credited his partner Tahnee Sims with saving his life, after she urged him to visit the hospital when he complained of an excruciating migraine, which turned out to be the tumour.

"Without her, I don't think I'd be here today," he reflected. "She's phenomenal. She's the most incredible person I've ever met."

The 31-year-old played the role of Chris Harrington on Home and Away from 2013 to 2016, and had previously featured as a finalist on The X Factor Australia.

Home and Away airs on Channel 5.
