We’re talkin’ softball, Mattingly and Canseco, Ken Griffey’s grotesquely swollen jaw, and Steve Sax and his run-in with the law. We’re talkin’ Homer, Ozzy, and the Straw.

That’s right, it’s been 25 years since the premiere of the “Homer at the Bat” episode of The Simpsons, which featured animated versions of many Hall of Famers — and now Homer Simpson gets to join them.

This Saturday, May 27th, Homer is being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame! The episode itself will have its own display at the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. Homer Simpson will give a speech, which will be followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the display.

“Homer at the Bat” featured appearances by Ken Griffey Jr., Mike Scioscia, Wade Boggs, Ozzie Smith, Roger Clemens, Darryl Strawberry, Steve Sax, Jose Canseco, Don Mattingly, and Don Mattingly’s sideburns. Three of those players — Griffey, Smith, and Boggs — have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Boggs and Smith will join in a roundtable discussion along with some of the show’s writers, and executive producers Al Jean and Mike Reiss.
