SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) _ Horace Mann Educators Corp. (HMN) on Tuesday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $20.3 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
On a per-share basis, the Springfield, Illinois-based company said it had a loss of 49 cents. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 21 cents per share.
The provider of auto and homeowners' insurance for teachers and other educators posted revenue of $278.5 million in the period.
For the year, the company reported profit of $18.3 million, or 44 cents per share. Revenue was reported as $1.19 billion.
Horace Mann expects full-year earnings in the range of $2 to $2.20 per share.
Horace Mann shares have climbed 12 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $41.80, a climb of 7.5 percent in the last 12 months.
