Judging by the fact that Hostess Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ:TWNK) has experienced a decline in interest from the aggregate hedge fund industry, logic holds that there is a sect of fund managers who sold off their full holdings heading into Q4. At the top of the heap, Brian Scudieri's Kehrs Ridge Capital dropped the largest position of the "upper crust" of funds followed by Insider Monkey, worth about $3.5 million in stock. Philippe Laffont's fund, Coatue Management, also dropped its stock, about $2.8 million worth. As you can see these stocks had an average of 20.75 hedge funds with bullish positions and the average amount invested in these stocks was $296 million. That figure was $166 million in TWNK's case. Zymeworks Inc. (NYSE:ZYME) is the most popular stock in this table. On the other hand Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE:R) is the least popular one with only 18 bullish hedge fund positions. Compared to these stocks Hostess Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ:TWNK) is more popular among hedge funds. Our calculations showed that top 10 most popular stocks among hedge funds returned 41.4% in 2019 and outperformed the S&P 500 ETF (SPY) by 10.1 percentage points. These stocks gained 8.3% in 2020 through the end of May and still beat the market by 13.2 percentage points. Unfortunately TWNK wasn't nearly as popular as these 10 stocks and hedge funds that were betting on TWNK were disappointed as the stock returned 13.3% during the second quarter (through the end of May) and underperformed the market.
