Nathan's Famous profit rises 44 percent in January-March quarter as hot dog sales increase

JERICHO, N.Y. (AP) -- Nathan's Famous said Wednesday that its fiscal fourth-quarter net income jumped 44 percent as the company sold more hot dogs.

For the quarter ended March 31, Nathan's earned $1.6 million, or 34 cents per share, up from $1.1 million, or 23 cents per share, in the same quarter the year before. Revenue rose 4 percent to $15 million from $14.4 million, helped by an extra week of sales in the most recent quarter.

For the full year, profit rose 21 percent to $7.5 million, or $1.63 per share. Revenue increased 8 percent to $71.5 million.

Shares of Jericho, N.Y.-based Nathan's Famous Inc. rose 27 cents to $51.30 in morning trading.
