Hudson River communities receive grants to prepare for climate change, rising water levels
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- New York's Department of Environmental Conservation has awarded three grants totaling $170,000 for task forces in Hudson River estuary communities to prepare for sea-level rise and waterfront flooding related to climate change.
The money is from the DEC's Hudson River Estuary Program in partnership with the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission.
Ron Poltak of the interstate commission says recent storms such as Irene, Lee and Sandy have shown that the threat of climate change is real and that communities need to prepare for future flood events.
The grants are going to programs in the villages of Piermont, Catskill and Stony Point.
