Hundreds without power in central and western Md. due to winter storm and high winds

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Utility companies say they've restored electricity to nearly all of the more than 7,000 customers in central and western Maryland affected by a winter storm.

Baltimore Gas and Electric Co., a unit of Exelon Corp., said Thursday it had about 400 outages remaining. About half of them were in Anne Arundel County.

Potomac Edison had nearly 500 customers without power in western Maryland, mostly in Garrett County.

The National Weather Service has a wind advisory in effect for most of Maryland until 6 p.m. It predicts northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph.
