IAEA says chief to visit Iran on Saturday before Iran reduces cooperation

VIENNA, Feb 17 (Reuters) - The U.N. nuclear watchdogconfirmed on Wednesday that its chief will visit Tehran onSaturday to seek an agreement on how to carry out his agency'swork there given Iran's plan to scale back cooperation nextweek.

"Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi will visit Tehran onSaturday for discussions with senior Iranian officials in orderto find a mutually agreeable solution for the IAEA to continueessential verification activities in the country," theInternational Atomic Energy Agency said in a statement.

Iran's plan to stop implementing various measures under itsnuclear deal with major powers as of Feb. 23 "would have aserious impact on the IAEA's verification and monitoringactivities in the country", it added.(Reporting by Francois Murphy;Editing by Alison Williams)
