ID personal income rebounds to prerecession levels

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- The Idaho Department of Labor says total personal income last year topped $53.8 billion — a total slightly higher than the peak reached before the economic recession.

Agency officials say total income growth was fueled by strong investment earnings and business profits during the final three months of 2012. Idaho's 2.1 percent increase in personal income during the final quarter of 2012 ranks the state 14th nationally.

Idaho's per capita income came in at $33,749, ranking the state 49th nationally and below the national per capital income of $42,693.

In 2012, business profits increased 6.6 percent compared to 2011 figures and wages and salaries edged up 1.9 percent.

Construction posted its first increase in earnings since 2007 and retail and manufacturing also saw strong gains over the previous year.
